About the Comsats University Islamabad
An international organization called COMSATS was established to
promote science and technology for sustainable development in the South. It
seeks to close the widening technological and scientific divide between the
developed and developing worlds. Under the direction of Dr. Abdus Salam, a
Nobel Prize winner, the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) conceived the
idea for the creation of COMSATS. Islamabad hosted the COMSATS founding
conference on October 4 and 5, 1994. There were participants from 36 nations.
Members of Islamabad's diplomatic corps, representatives of international
organizations like UNESCO, UNIDO, UNEP, and the World Bank, as well as
twenty-two Ministers, were among the participants.
