the Defence Housing Authority (DHA)
The Defence was first
founded as a cooperative housing society in the middle of the 1950s by veterans
of the armed forces. The first Pakistani to serve as Commander-in-Chief of the
Pakistani Navy, Rear Admiral Haji Mohammad Siddiq Chaudhry, opened the office.
It was taken over by the state and placed under the command of the Corps
Commander Karachi in 1981, as per the directives of President Gen. Zia-ul Haq.
The authority was established by Presidential Order No. 7 of 1980, which the
Pakistani National Assembly later endorsed..
