started installing track and running in Sindh and Punjab in 1855, during the
British Raj. Pakistan Railways is the country's sole state-owned railroad. The
North Western State Railway, which was established in 1861 and has its main
office in Lahore, owns 7,490 kilometers of operational track across Pakistan
that stretches from Torkham to Karachi and provides both freight and passenger
services. An active participant in the International Union of Railways is
Pakistan Railways. 70 million passengers were transported by Pakistan Railways
during the 2018–19 fiscal year.
